Service Description

Get your hands in clay to make something you'll love... a ceramic wall mask! Jamie will provide all of the instructions, demonstrations, and guidance needed to create your one-of-a-kind work of art. Your wall mask may be human, animal, a fairytale creature, or just about anything you can imagine! Due to limited kiln space, size must be limited to approximately 7"L x 7"W x 2"H. DAY 1 Thursday, April 10th 3:00-5:00 Using pre-made slabs of stoneware clay, Jamie will guide you as you press your slab over a slump mold, cut out the perimeter of your mask, and clean up the edges and surface (a variety of texture rollers and stencils are available for surface details if desired). Then we will begin shaping and adding the features. Jamie will demonstrate how to shape 3D eyes, a nose, lips, and any other details you would like to include on your mask. Open Studio time is available throughout the week for anyone needing more time. The mask will slow-dry for two weeks, then get bisque-fired in the kiln. DAY 2 Thursday, May 1st 4:30-6:30 Return to glaze, choosing from a selection of over 75 colors! These projects will be take-home ready about 2 weeks after glazing. Clay, tools, glazes, instructions, slump molds, texture rollers, stencils, and 2 kiln firings included. All clay is stoneware, so projects are safe for food, the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Most glazes are nontoxic so they are safe for food, however, we are introducing some glazes that are not intended for food, so please choose your glazes accordingly! Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own hand towel!
