Service Description

Get your hands in clay to make something you'll love... a ceramic slab box! Jamie will provide all of the instructions, demonstrations, and guidance needed to create your one-of-a-kind work of art. Your slab box may be used for anything you'd like; jewelry storage, a memory box, a soap holder, or something functional in the kitchen! DAY 1 Thursday, March 27th 3:00-5:00 Using pre-made slabs of stoneware clay and templates, Jamie will guide you as you cut out 6 sides for your box. Then you will assemble your box and clean up the surface. Open Studio time is available for anyone needing more time. The box will remain bagged for one week allowing the clay to set up and become leather hard. Jamie will provide the template for a 5" x 5" x 2" box. *You may bring or create your own template, but please keep dimensions within 5" x 5" x 5". DAY 2 Thursday, April 3rd 3:00-5:00 Return for another session of working with clay. First, Jamie will demonstrate how to cut out your custom lid. Then, use your imagination to carve, build, and attach features... you'll have absolute creative freedom to customize your slab box any way you can imagine! Open Studio time is available for anyone needing more time. DAY 3 Choose from any of our glaze days on or after April 24th Return to glaze, choosing from a selection of over 75 colors! These projects will be take-home ready within 2-3 weeks after glazing. Clay, tools, glazes, instructions, templates, and 2 kiln firings included. All clay is stoneware, so projects are safe for food, the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Most glazes are nontoxic so they are safe for food, however, we are introducing some glazes that are not intended for food, so please choose your glazes accordingly! Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own hand towel!
