Handbuilding Level 1 Wednesday WENDY MEL
12:00-2:00pm Wednesdays, September 4th - October 9th
Service Description
Learn the skills needed to build with your hands and create one-of-a-kind works of art such as mugs, bowls, pots, plates, boxes, vases, lanterns, sculptures, and more! This 6-week session meets once weekly for 2 hours and includes 6 hours of Open Studio time for extended surface decoration. Students will learn the basic history of ceramics, the stages of clay, and how to safely and effectively handle clay. The 6 sessions will focus on pinching, coil-building, slab-building, and glazing, and includes a potter’s wheel demonstration. Students will create and glaze 5 projects that will be take-home ready within about 2 weeks after finishing the course; a pinch pot ramekin, 2 pinch pot tea cups, a slab trinket tray with 3D features, a small coil bowl, and a mug. All clay and glazes are nontoxic stoneware, so they are safe for food, the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own hand towel! Students who complete Level 1 are eligible to move on to Level 2. Upon completion of any level, all students are eligible to participate in our quarterly art exhibition and sale! Students who complete levels 1, 2, and 3 are eligible to participate in our Level 4 Emerging Artist Program!
