Service Description

Learn the basics of handbuilding with clay! As a homeschooling mom of 2 and prior high school Ceramics and Art teacher, Jamie understands the value of high-quality creative education that nurtures critical thinking, problem solving, direction following, and creative expression. In these group classes (Homeschool Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4), these principles will be emphasized while students learn how to build with their hands to create a variety of projects such as mugs, bowls, pots, plates, trays, boxes, vases, sculptures, lanterns, wall art, and more! Homeschool Level 1 is a 6-week session recommended for ages 8-17 that meets once weekly for 2 hours. Students will learn the basic history of ceramics, the stages of clay, and how to safely and effectively handle clay. The 6 sessions will focus on pinching, coil-building, slab-building, and glazing, and a potter’s wheel demonstration will be provided. Students will create and glaze 5 projects; a pinch pot ramekin, a small plate, a slab trinket tray with 3D features, a coil bowl, and a mug. These projects will be take-home ready within about 2 weeks after finishing the course. Clay, tools, and glaze included. All clay and glazes are nontoxic stoneware, so they are safe for food, the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own hand towel! Level 1 may be repeated. Students who complete Level 1 are eligible to move on to Level 2. Upon completion of any level, all students are eligible to participate in our quarterly art exhibition and sale! Students who complete levels 1, 2, and 3 are eligible to participate in our Level 4 Emerging Artist Program!
