Service Description

Our Clay & Kiln Firing Service is designed for potters who want the convenience of creating at home while enjoying access to professional materials, equipment, and firings. Your fees support cone 6 clay, over 100 brush-on glazes and 15 dipping glazes, commercial-grade kilns, electricity, kiln maintenance, supplies, and the careful handling, inspection, loading, unloading, and storage of every piece. Our pricing is in line with national standards and reflects the true cost of providing safe, reliable, high-quality firings and helps ensure we can continue offering this premium service to our community. WHAT WE OFFER: CLAY Cone 6 buff stoneware clay $50 per 25 pound bag (includes our cost for shipping, handling, & storage) CONE 04 BISQUE KILN FIRE $0.06 per cubic inch (LxWxH) Minimum $5 -Oversized work requiring approximately half of our Skutt 1227 will be charged at a half-kiln rate $100 or full-kiln rate of $200 -We only fire clay purchased through us to ensure proper cone firing -All handbuilt/sculptural pieces must be hollowed-out and ventilated to prevent explosions -Bonedery work will be fired within approximately 1-3 weeks of drop-off (oversized work to be determined) GLAZE Choose from the following options: -100 brush on glazes ($20 orientation required) -15 dipping glazes ($20 orientation required) Glaze fee is $3 per pound of pottery (minimum $5) (includes our cost for shipping & handling) CONE 6 GLAZE KILN FIRE $0.10 per cubic inch (LxWxH) Minimum $5 -Oversized work requiring approximately half of our Skutt 1227 kiln will be charged at a half-kiln rate $100 or full-kiln rate of $200 -We only fire clay purchased through us to ensure proper cone firing -Makers must (a) provide their own kiln cookies for each item or (b) purchase kiln cookies through us -No single fire; all items must be cone 04 bisque-fired first -Work will be fired within 1-3 weeks of drop-off (oversized work to be determined) NOTE: Signed contract is required for all kiln firings. Customers are responsible for replacing kiln shelves, elements, fire brick, and other components damaged by improperly constructed work, incompatible clay, glaze runoff, or explosions. We do not have the capacity for production potters at this time. Our storage and kiln space is limited. We may only offer this service during our slower seasons.
