Handbuilding Level 1 Ages 12 - Adult
Fridays 2:30-4:30 January 9th - February 13th
Service Description
Learn the skills needed to build with your hands and create one-of-a-kind works of art such as mugs, bowls, pots, plates, vases, and more! Recommended for ages 12 and older. Level 1 Handbuilding is a 6-week session that meets once weekly for 2 hours and includes 6 hours of Open Studio time for extended surface decoration. Students will learn the basic history of ceramics, the stages of clay, and how to safely and effectively handle clay and glaze. The 6 sessions will focus on pinching, coil-building, hard and soft slab-building, slump-molding, and glazing. Students will create and glaze 5 projects that will be take-home ready within about 2 weeks of glazing; a slump-molded plate, a pinch pot ramekin, a coil bowl, a hard-slab vase, and a soft-slab mug. The 6th and final session introduces glazing. Glazing may be completed during Open Studio sessions. All glazing must be completed within 30 days of the 6th session. Missed sessions may not be rescheduled or refunded. Clay, tools, and glaze included. All clay is stoneware, so projects are safe for food, the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Most glazes are safe for food, however, some are not, so guidance will be provided when glazing. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own hand towel!
