Service Description

Learn how to throw pottery on the wheel and make your own mugs, bowls, pots, plates, vases, and more! Glaze and keep up to 10 of your favorite pots. This small group class of 5 students will meet on 6 consecutive Saturdays for 2 hours of demonstrations, guided practice, independent practice, and clean-up. It is for beginners and anyone needing a refresher course. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and please bring your own towel or apron because you’ll need it! The first 5 sessions are on the potter's wheel and cover the basics of throwing, including wedging, centering, opening, pulling, shaping, and reclaiming. The 6th session introduces glazing. Students may select from our collection of over 85 glazes! Glazing may be completed during Open Studio sessions. All glazing must be completed within 30 days of the 6th session. Missed sessions may not be rescheduled or refunded, but 2 hours of practice time on the wheel may be reserved if the schedule allows. This package includes clay, tools, open studio, glaze, bisque fire, and glaze fire. All clay is stoneware, which is safe for food, microwave, dishwasher, and oven. Most glazes are food safe, but a small selection are not, so guidance will be provided when glazing. Additional wheel time may be added on by reserving the wheel during a 2 hour Potter's Wheel Pass session for $40 (includes 1 pound of clay). Additional clay may be purchased for $4 per pound. The cost of additional clay includes the cost of additional glaze, larger shelf storage, and larger kiln space required for 2 firings. Handles are taught in Level 2. However, students may schedule a 30 minute handle shaping and attaching session for an additional $10 per person. Trimming is taught in Level 2. However, students may schedule a 30 minute trimming lesson for an additional $10 per person. Level 1 may be repeated. Students who complete Level 1 are eligible to move on to Level 2. Upon completion of any level, students are eligible to participate in our pottery sales! Students who complete levels 1, 2, and 3 are eligible to participate in our Level 4 Emerging Artist Program! This class serves as a prerequisite for membership in our Member's Studio. Refunds for cancellations within 1 week of the first session will be limited to $150 unless we can fill your seat.
